Abstract

This project set out to do was build a small-scale firefighting robot, that you can control from a distance using an app on your phone. Think of it like a remote-controlled car, but instead of just driving around, it sprays water to put out fires. We used a water tank and a pump for that. The whole thing runs on an ATMega-32 microcontroller, which basically acts as the robot’s brain. To make it wireless, we decided to use Bluetooth, so it can be controlled with any Android phone or tablet. We designed an app which is easy to use, with buttons and stuff on a touchscreen. The app itself was built using Android Studio and written in Java, which is just a programming language. Basically, your phone acts like a remote control, sending signals to the robot. The robot then has a Bluetooth receiver that talks to the microcontroller, telling it what to do, like turn on the pump or move the arm and made sure it has a good range, so anyone can control it from a decent distance.
